  • The evolution of astrological practice over the last 2,000 years is multi-faceted and complex. Our style of practice honors this reality through a conscious blending of techniques from both ancient and modern lineages.

    Our practice is primarily informed by archetypal, humanistic, psychological & Hellenistic teachings, as outlined below.

  • We use a variety of techniques drawn from both ancient and modern practices.

    Our foundational techniques include: natal chart interpretation, transits, secondary progressions & annual profections.

    We exclusively use the tropical zodiac and primarily use the Whole Sign House system. However, we are open to reading your chart in whatever house system you prefer (offerings which require the use of the Whole Sign are noted in the description).

  • In addition to extensive self-study, Diana McNiff (Founder) has completed Astrology University’s Diploma Program Level I & II Certification, and is currently working towards Level III Certification.

    Through this program, she has studied with some of the world’s most respected astrologers including Tony Howard, Safron Rossi, Demetra George, Kelly Surtees, Darby Costello, Lynn Bell, Mark Jones, Jessica Murray, Karen Hamaker-Zondag, Jason Holley and Steven Forrest.

    Our practice is also deeply influenced by the teachings of Dane Rudhyar, Stephen Arroyo, Erin Sullivan, Bernadette Brady, Chani Nicholas and Chris Brennan.

Diana McNiff

FOUNDER of THRESHOLD ASTROLOGY

Astrology orbited my peripheral vision for many years, colliding with my reality in 2020. Along with the rest of the world, a few months of daily-life in a global pandemic revealed that whatever habits I had unconsciously honed throughout my life just weren’t cutting it anymore. But I was at a loss for how to move forward.

I had my first professional astrological reading and couldn’t look back. The insight it provided was penetrating, genuine and deeply personal. It planted the seeds of new perspectives in my mind. What I saw before as innate internal challenges began to transform into unique gifts.

Unknowingly honoring the Sagittarian Saturn on my Ascendant, I voraciously and systematically sought deeper knowledge, which led me to envision and launch Threshold Astrology in 2023.

In addition to extensive self-study, I have completed Astrology University’s Diploma Program Level I & II Certification, and am currently working toward Level III Certification.

Prior to founding Threshold Astrology, I explored a few other iterations of myself that led me to this work.

I received my B.A. in Social and Historical Inquiry from The New School in 2007, where I focused my thesis on the narrative misrepresentations of the Spanish Conquest of Mexico (born from the conquistadores and Aztecs’ vastly different concepts of time). In 2008, I was accepted as a Master's Fellow at New York University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, where I focused my research and international field work on the sociocultural impacts of ecotourism in Costa Rica and received my M.A. in 2010.

Hungry for experience outside the academic world, I began a career as a nonprofit fundraiser, focusing on building partnerships to mobilize funds and human capital for international organizations that worked to effectively address global poverty and environmental issues. I specialized in front-line major gifts fundraising and donor management, affinity travel planning, event planning, grant writing and reporting and volunteer management for organizations including One Acre Fund and the Rainforest Alliance.

Alongside my academic and professional pursuits, I have also enjoyed two decades of playing music professionally as a solo guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. My debut album, “Playing in the Grays” was released in January 2020 and can be streamed anywhere you listen to music.

    A single reading provides a deep dive into your chart and includes a recording of the session, which may be perfect for folks who like to process over time on their own. You can always schedule a follow up at a later time.

    For a guided and expanded navigation of your chart, we offer packages that focus on specific topics and unlock the depth and dynamism of your chart.

    We also offer events and workshops including, custom mini-readings for parties and events of all sizes, cosmic book club guide (your group reads an accessible astro-book — such as Chani Nicholas’ “You Were Born for This” — and I join your gathering to help you explore at a deeper level), and workshop formats that are a great way to bring exciting new content to your wellness center, corporate retreat or gathering.

  • Don’t worry, we don’t need ALL the details! To accurately calculate your birth chart we just need the date, time and location of your birth.

    If possible, it’s always best to reference an official document (like a birth certificate) to confirm the exact time. While it may be tempting to just text your parents, it’s best to go the extra mile this time and check the data. Speaking as someone who has given birth — the birthing parent has a lot of other things on their mind ;)

    If your birth certificate doesn’t include an exact time — you’re not out of luck yet! You may have a “short form” version. You can try requesting a “long form” certificate from the vital statistics office in your city of birth, or the hospital where you were born.

    If you can’t get your hands on an official document, it’s time to do some deeper sleuthing. The next best option is a birth announcement, baby book or other written source — even an heirloom family religious text may have data written into the front cover.

    If none of these work out, a time from your parents or family members memory can work. The more detail you can get to confirm the time the better (i.e. “it was the middle of the night” confirms a 1:00 AM vs 1:00 PM time whereas “the doctor made it to the post office before it closed for the day” can confirm a 3:30 PM vs. 3:30 AM time)

    Take a peek: Our mini session is a perfect introduction to your birth chart. Includes simple overview to orient you with your chart and a look at your “Big Three “ — the critical trifecta that describes your purpose (Sun), your emotional landscape & needs (Moon) and how you experience the world (Rising Sign).

    Take a step: A full natal chart reading can be a stand-alone offering, or a foundation for deeper exploration with a focused session or discounted package.

    Take the leap: If you have already experienced a full natal chart reading and are ready to dive deeper, a general or focused follow up (cosmic weather, or special focus) is a great place to explore. We also offer discounted rates on session packages.

  • Each session is personalized and based in our philosophy of mutual dialogue and respect. You provide basic information in your intake form, and we come prepared with a thoughtful & practical translation of your chart.

    We will share our insights in a dialogue format, allowing us to work together to unearth the unique complexity of your individual chart.

    Sessions range from 30-90 minutes depending on the offering you choose. They are conducted virtually. You will be provided with a copy of the session recording, so you can be present in the experience with no worries about missing any of the delicious detail.

  • This requirement aligns with our commitment to provide practical, personalized and professional astrological resources.

    Diving into timing (“cosmic weather”) and other focus areas requires a strong foundational knowledge of an individual’s chart (for both the astrologer and the client). Any astrological work done without this foundation is untethered from its essential roots.

    We would never provide an astrological consultation without thorough reference to the individual’s chart. Our requirement of an initial chart reading before moving into deeper territory reflects the value of the meaningful investment being made from both our side, and yours.

  • Fees are due at booking and are nonrefundable, but can be rescheduled online up to 48 hours prior to your appointment.

    We know that life throws us curve balls when we least expect it, so if you absolutely need to reschedule within 48 hours of your session, please contact us directly.

  • We maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information given in private sessions, except in situations where silence would be grievously harmful to a client or to another person, per the ISAR Ethical Standards.
